Fred Trump III, nephew of former President Donald Trump, made headlines Tuesday by announcing his intention to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming election. This move represents a stark departure from his family’s political alignment.
In an appearance on “The View,” Fred Trump III emphasized his preference for policy over politics, stating, “I believe in policy over politics, and without question, Kamala Harris’s policies are what I get behind. I will be voting for Kamala Harris.” He further expressed his willingness to actively support her campaign, saying, “If I’m asked, I will campaign for her without hesitation.”
Fred Trump and his sister, Mary Trump, have been outspoken critics of their uncle, often challenging his methods and decisions. During an earlier interview on “Good Morning America,” Fred Trump described his uncle’s approach to leadership as “complex and sometimes cruel,” adding, “Within every family, people understand that families are complicated. My uncle Donald is atomic crazy. And he has left a significant mark on our family history.”
Promoting his new book, “All in the Family: The Trumps and How We Got This Way,” Fred Trump shared insights into the family dynamics and his strained relationship with the former president. The book promises “never-before-told stories” about the Trump family, including troubling anecdotes about his uncle’s behavior.
In one such story, Fred Trump recounted a disturbing conversation with his uncle during a visit to the Oval Office, where the former president allegedly suggested that people with disabilities “should just die.” Fred Trump recalled a similar incident during a phone call when he informed his uncle that the medical fund for his son, William, who has a disability, was depleting. Trump allegedly responded, “Your son doesn’t recognize you. Let him die and move to Florida,” to which Fred replied, “No, Donald. He does recognize me.”
Reflecting on these interactions, Fred Trump admitted, “Was I surprised? I don’t think you can hear something like that and not be surprised. But that is what he has become. It’s sad.”
In response to these claims, Trump’s communications director, Steven Cheung, issued a statement to The Hill, categorically denying Fred Trump’s allegations. “This is completely fabricated and total fake news of the highest order,” Cheung stated. “It is appalling that such a blatantly false story can be printed in media. Anyone who knows President Trump knows he would never use such language, and false stories like this have been thoroughly debunked.”
Cheung dismissed Fred Trump’s account as a “cheap shot to sell copies of a book that belongs in the bargain bin of the fiction section.”
