Taylor Swift’s rep is addressing a reported confrontation involving the singer’s father, Scott Swift, and photographer Ben McDonald in Sydney, Australia.
This follows a statement from New South Wales police indicating they are looking into an “alleged assault” in Sydney’s North Shore.
“A 71-year-old man allegedly assaulted a 51-year-old man at Neutral Bay Wharf about 2:30 a.m. (Tuesday 27 February 2024), before leaving the location,” NSW police said.
“The younger man reported the incident and inquiries are now underway by officers attached to North Shore Police Area Command,” the statement continued. “The man did not require medical treatment.”
In McDonald’s footage, which was licensed by ABC, Taylor Swift, accompanied by her father, is shown walking with an umbrella over her head towards a waiting vehicle. The camera shakes, and a verbal altercation can be heard. While not captured on video, Scott Swift is accused of physically confronting McDonald, who was present along with another photographer.
In response to the incident, a representative for Taylor Swift stated that there was pushing and shoving as certain individuals trailed the singer and her group.
“Two individuals were aggressively pushing their way towards Taylor, grabbing at her security personnel and threatening to throw a female staff member into the water.”
NSW police clarified that Scott Swift has not faced any charges related to the incident. This event occurred the day after Taylor Swift concluded her last performance at Accor Stadium in Sydney.
The singer completed a series of four concerts and had recently finished a three-day run in Melbourne.
