Brad Pitt reportedly feels “aware and upset” following his daughter Shiloh’s decision to drop his surname.
The Hollywood actor, who shares six children with his ex-wife Angelina Jolie — three biologically and three through adoption — has expressed distress over Shiloh’s choice to change her name to Shiloh Jolie-Pitt on her 18th birthday, May 27th.
A source close to the situation revealed to People magazine that Pitt is deeply affected by this development, given his profound happiness upon Shiloh’s birth and his long-held desire for a daughter.
“He’s aware and upset that Shiloh dropped his last name. He’s never felt more joy than when she was born. He always wanted a daughter,” a source told People.
“The reminders that he’s lost his children, is of course not easy for Brad. He loves his children and misses them. It’s very sad.”
This news comes amidst ongoing challenges between Pitt and Jolie, including their unresolved divorce proceedings and disputes over their jointly owned French winery, Chateau Miraval.
Their marriage, which took place in 2014, ended in a contentious divorce filing by Jolie in September 2016, following an incident aboard a plane where she accused Pitt of physical assault against her and their children. Pitt has consistently refused these allegations
Currently, their separation has not been finalized and a settlement agreement is yet to be reached.
The former couple are also involved in a legal battle over Chateau Miraval, a French winery they bought together. Shiloh is the first to do so legally, but she is not the first of her siblings to seek a move away from the name Pitt.
Earlier this year, Pitt’s second biological daughter Vivienne, 15, dropped their father’s last name in her listing in a Playbill program for a production of The Outsiders on Broadway.
In 2023, Pitt’s eldest adopted daughter Zahara, 19, was captured on video introducing herself as “Zahara Marley Jolie”, on joining Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at Spelman College.
